ABOUT BARCH:
The ARChive of Contemporary Music (ARC) is creating Brazilian Music Day (Sept. 7, 2012) and the Brazilian Music Collection.  ARC is a not-for-profit music archive in partnership with Columbia University.

ARC’s mission is to collect and preserve all forms of music from around the world.  Based in New York City since 1985, ARC is the largest popular music collection in the world with over two million sound recordings.

In 2011 we launched our first “World Music Day” celebrating Islamic music and culture – please see: (www.muslimworldmusicday.com), this online site was accessed by more than 250,000 people worldwide on the initial date and still gets over 2,000 visitors daily.  The project was awarded the prestigious “Innovative Use of Archives Award” by the Archivists Round Table of Metropolitan New York.

Building on this success ARC is developing the first Brazilian Music Day (BMD).  BMD will be an online website to present, promote and explore the rich cultural heritage of Brazilian music of the past, present and future.   BMD will offer videos, histories, seminars, concerts, lectures, sound files, sheet music, album cover art galleries, essays, blogs, photos and links all highlighting the importance and beauty of Brazilian music as well as educate a global audience about
it’s many genres and facets.

A major component of BMD will be the database describing ARC’s Brazilian Music Collection and Brazilian recordings held by all archives and libraries around the world.  ARC is already the largest collection of Brazilian music outside of Brazil, with more than 5,000 recordings.  Our goal is to grow this collection of 78s, LPs and CDs in partnership with a cultural institution in Brazil.  Information on all Brazilian recordings in the world will be posted in a freely available online database for reference and research as part of the website.

ARC is seeking partners and sponsors to help us complete this important work and help present Brazilian Music Day on September 7, 2012, Brazil’s National Day.   Founding Partners include Columbia University Libraries, Gracenote and the Internet Archive.

The project director for Brazilian Music Day is New York based producer Béco Dranoff.  Our blog and website are coming soon, with a formal press release in Oct. 2011.  Please contact Béco or
ARC Director B. George at info@arcmusic.org or call: 212-226-6967.

Looking back at our album covers, we have tip our hats to one of our first art designers at Afro:Baile Records. Artist and Photographer Alonso Murillo came up with the concept to bring together what has become our signature series at the label. When creating the idea, Alonso had the idea to put together two albums to make one. It would go on to be 2 our best sellers and most requested artwork to date!

Celebrating the album artwork we have also included 2 Free downloadable singles (1 from each album). From the originally alum that started it all! Brazil:Sambossica 1. You can download the hit single "Maimborie" by Mr. Ze and from the Brazil:Sambossica 2 album, download the lead off track "Frases do luar" by Eliza Lacerda! Both songs Free and we'd love for you to share this with friends!
